Inside the Chandler Panelbeaters workshop

Peter and the crew

Chandler Panelbeaters has been on Williamson Avenue in Grey Lynn since 2007. Peter runs the shop — he's the one customers mention by name in every review, and the one who picks up the phone when you call.

The approach is simple: look at the car, give an honest quote, do the work properly, and don't charge for things that don't need doing. That's how it's been for nearly two decades, and it's why most of the work comes through word of mouth and local referrals.

More than a few customers have noted that the team fixes things they weren't asked to fix — a broken window button here, a marque badge reattached there — at no extra charge. That's not a marketing strategy. It's just how they work.

In their words

"Couldn't recommend Peter more. He helped me out when my car was flooding inside due to a poor windscreen repair. He fixed the problem, loaned me a car to drive in the meantime, and even shined up my lights for me! Friendly and trustworthy — what a lucky find right in the hood."

"Awesome service by the team. Really great work repainting parts of our 4WD for a good price."

"These guys are the best. They are local, they try their best to keep the costs down and they do a great job. They even straightened out the back of my car and reattached the marque name without me asking or charging me for it. They go the extra."

Grey Lynn, Auckland neighbourhood

Grey Lynn born and bred

Grey Lynn is one of Auckland's best inner-city suburbs — character villas, big trees, and a community that actually knows each other. We've been part of it since 2007.

Our workshop is on Williamson Avenue, just off Ponsonby Road. Easy to find, easy to park. Most of our customers are local — they walk past, their neighbours recommend us, or the mechanic down the road sends them our way.

If you're in the area, drop by anytime Monday to Friday. The kettle's on.
